Medication Administration at School
All medications—both prescription and over-the-counter—must be stored and dispensed through the Health Office. For safety reasons, students are not permitted to carry medications or transport them to and from school. A parent, guardian, or other authorized adult must deliver all medications directly to the Health Office.
If a student needs to take medication during the school day, the following are required: written authorization from the parent or guardian, a medication order from a licensed prescriber, and the medication in its original pharmacy-labeled container.
In specific cases, and in consultation with the school nurse, students may be permitted to self-administer certain medications such as asthma inhalers, insulin, or EpiPens®. This requires an updated action plan from the healthcare provider and a completed parent authorization form. Medication administration forms are available below.
